Introduction

In July 2025, a new innovation emerged in reinforcement learning training for large language models. Geometric-Mean Policy Optimization (GMPO) resolves the stability problems of the existing GRPO (Group Relative Policy Optimization) and achieves 4.1% improvement on mathematical reasoning and 1.4% improvement on multimodal reasoning.
